Beds with a ladder: why Americans sleep on three mattresses at once

Many Russian citizens moving to permanent residence in the United States, are surprised to find that the beds in America are significantly different from ours. Americans are accustomed to paying great attention to night rest, comfort and convenience. Therefore, most of them use large beds with two or three different mattresses, while the royal bed has a rather large height, and you need to climb onto it literally with a ladder.

Standard bed in the USA

The bed at Americans has a solid height and size. Most wealthy people prefer king size, which means that the base on which the mattress is laid has dimensions of 2 × 2 meters.

Agree, on such a bed you can comfortably lay a whole volleyball team. The Russians, who left for permanent residence in America, wonder how you can stay close to spouses, if in a dream they cannot even reach each other by hand.

Standard bed for Americans consists of:

  • base height of about 100 cm, with no side and front wall;
  • lower mattress providing stiffness;
  • upper softer flooring.

Important! In some cases, the third layer is applied, providing complete comfort; it is thinner than the other two.

It is fair to say that such a bed can not be found in every home. Some Americans live quite modestly and cannot afford royal comforts.

Why are Americans obsessed with mattresses?

In the US, the mattress industry is unusually developed. This is a multi-billion dollar business that brings huge profits to the owners. Americans are constantly being introduced to new and new products that they are happy to purchase.

Locals are offered a choice of a variety of options. Soft, hard, medium hard, with a variety of bells and whistles and fillers. For the Russian people such a variety is unusual. And Americans are well versed in all varieties of this product and often acquire several mattresses at once, putting them on one bed.

Important! How expedient it is to put two mattresses on one bed at once — one hard and the other soft — to be judged only by Americans who sleep on them. According to the Russians who moved to permanent residence in the United States, this is an unjustified and waste of money.

But three rather thick layers add height to an already rather big bed. There is even a joke about the fact that people have to use special ladders or stools so that it is convenient to climb onto a sleeping place. This is hardly relevant for people, but for pets that are allowed to sleep on the bed along with the owners, the necessary thing.

Why put at once three mattresses?

Citizens of the United States of America are very influenced by advertising. Manufacturers claim that for the spine and joints need a rigid frame. However, it is very inconvenient to sleep on a hard surface, so various more subtle types of mattresses are offered that can provide a comfortable night rest.

Thus, three layers are needed:

  • the first, the most voluminous - to ensure the rigidity of the bed;
  • the second, less voluminous, softer - for the convenience of rest;
  • the third is thin flooring on the upper mattress so that the person can sleep as comfortably as possible.

That is why three layers fit on the bed at once. I'm not sure that this design brings too much benefit to the spine, but marketing is serious business. Americans are very gullible and blindly believe handouts.

It should be noted that not all Americans are satisfied with such "pies" on their beds. Many simply cannot afford this luxury and are content with two or even one regular mattress.
