How to switch a microphone from a laptop to headphones

As we were not a good laptop, the quality of its microphone, often leaves much to be desired. Even if this is not so, the sound transmission quality is badly damaged, at least because of the distance and noise of the laptop itself, therefore, for example, just talking on Skype will be more convenient to use a microphone from the headphones.

How to switch the microphone to headphones: instructions

Before you begin, you need to pay attention to the plug of the accessory. It is of two types:

  • two outputs (separate plugs for earphones and for and microphone);
  • combined.

The situation is similar with the ports on the laptop. Some models require separate openings for connection, newer ones are also combined.

Help: the ports differ visually by graphic designation, respectively: headphones, a microphone and headphones with a microphone.

If, for example, you purchased an accessory with two plugs, and your laptop has a combined port, you will have to purchase an adapter. The same applies to the reverse version with one plug and two ports.

After a direct "physical" connection, you need to change the settings of the laptop. The headphones will work without additional actions, but you will have to devote a little more time to connecting the microphone. To do this, just follow a simple algorithm:

  • We go through the "Start" in the "Control Panel".
  • Select the category "System", and in it the item "Sound".
  • In the "Input" section, set the active window to the connected accessory.
  • Do a sound test, paying attention to the filling of the scale. If it is filled in accordance with the received sound, then everything is fine.

Reference: If you are not sure that the microphone connected correctly, then click on the "Troubleshooting" button. The module will analyze and indicate possible problems.

Windows 7 laptops have a sound recording feature. After listening to the recorded track, you can judge the connection: if you hear your voice, then the connection is established, and if there is only interference, there are problems with the connection.

Why might the microphone not switch?

The microphone may not be connected for various reasons: from simple carelessness to factory defects. The main cases include:

  • Incorrect connection. Check that each plug is inserted into its corresponding port.

Important: The contacts must be clean, free of debris and dust. Otherwise, the connection may not occur.

  • Factory marriage of headphones. Often they are distinguished by cheap accessories. Some models simply do not have the declared functionality: as a rule, they have only an icon or, at best, also a separate plug.
  • Virus on a laptop. It may interfere with the correct installation of the device. In order to avoid this problem, it is necessary to regularly check with an antivirus program.
  • Incorrect settings. It is important that the devices used have a check mark on the connected microphone.

Most of the new laptop models are already adapted for connecting headphones and a microphone independently, but some still need to tinker with, making settings.
