Antenna short - how to disconnect on the TV

Sometimes, to receive digital television, in addition to the decimeter range antenna, you need a receiver, the so-called set-top box, which connects to the TV. As an external antenna, a UHF or a broadband receiver is suitable, it must be operational and work well on the ground (it all depends on the landscape and proximity to the transponders). So, the user's TV is connected to the receiver, and after they are turned on together, the message “Antenna short” appears on the TV menu, which literally means “antenna short circuit”.

Why does such a notification appear?

REFERENCE: First of all, you need to understand that antenna receivers are active and passive.

Active television antennas require additional nutrition. Passive television antennas do not need an amplification unit, and some of them are short-circuited, and if they are supplied with such power, they are closed, as a result of which the menu on the TV screen becomes inaccessible for control.

Therefore, a malfunction appears on the TV in the following cases:

  • A passive receiver is used, and in the settings of the set-top box menu, the power to the missing amplifier was automatically turned on. There is a solution to this problem, consider what to do:
  1. Power off the receiver.
  2. Disconnect the plug from the receiver.
  3. Switch the receiver back on, find the "Setup" section and the "Power antenna" subsection in the menu, and turn off unnecessary power to the antenna receiver.
  4. Connect the antenna.
  • An active receiver is used, the power is turned on in the menu, but a short circuit could occur if the amplifier itself failed, this happens, for example, after a thunderstorm. Also, at the same time, the cable itself could be shorted at the joints with careless installation. The way out of this situation:
  1. Disconnect the prefix.
  2. Identify and eliminate short circuit causes.
  3. Reconnect the console.

ATTENTION. If nothing has changed during the above manipulations, then you just need to change the faulty receiver or television antenna.
