How to lay carpet on linoleum

Want to refresh the interior of an apartment or a separate room? But I do not want to, and a full-fledged repair is not planned. What to do? There is still a way out of this dilemma - this is a carpet.

Having laid a carpet on the floor, you can transform the room beyond recognition. This is achieved by the fact that it is the floor that is the basis of any interior, which further forms the entire space. In addition, the texture of the carpeting will give the room more warmth and a sense of comfort.

Advantages and disadvantages of flooring this coating on linoleum

As soon as there was a desire to lay a carpet on the floor, immediately a lot of questions arise. And the most basic is the following: is it possible to lay the carpet directly on the linoleum in the room? The clear answer is yes. This will reduce the cost of money and time, because with this method of spreading it will not be necessary to additionally prepare the floor.

But the disadvantages of such styling include the likelihood of bubbles and irregularities under the linoleum, which can cause bloating and carpet.

IMPORTANT: If flooring is carried out along with other finishing works, then you should finish them first, and only then proceed with laying the flooring. This will eliminate the contamination of the fleecy part of the carpet.

Can this be done?

As it has already been clarified, it is possible to spread the carpet over an existing linoleum coating. But it is important to take into account some subtleties that will allow you to avoid unpleasant moments during the further use of the floor:

  • It is necessary to evaluate the quality of linoleum. It should not have cracks, holes or cuts on its surface.
  • Linoleum should form a continuous, smooth, horizontal surface, the formation of extensive bubbles or stretched areas of linoleum is unacceptable.

IMPORTANT: Linoleum must be well fixed to the floor, for example, glued. This will prevent shifts and deformations of the upper layer of carpet.

If all of the above points are taken into account and there are no obvious defects on the surface of linoleum, then it will become an excellent substrate for carpet flooring.

Instructions on how to lay a carpet on linoleum

Before you begin laying carpet on your own, you should prepare the following materials and tools for work:

  • Flexible roulette.
  • A long metal ruler.
  • Scissors, a knife with different blades.
  • Double-sided adhesive tape.
  • Hammer.
  • A special tool for getting material for the flu.
  • Stretcher.
  • Glue for the base.
  • Tapes for gluing.
  • The roller is special.

NOTE: It is imperative to carry out preparatory work for a long service life, which consists in high-quality cleaning of the surface from dust, dirt, grease and other stains.

This is necessary since the carpet must be firmly fixed. As a rule, this is done with glue. And glue needs a surface that has a high level of adhesion. Therefore, cleaning should be carried out in the most thorough manner.

Next, it is important to carefully measure the room. It is better to sketch the premises by floor area. Draw a configuration and put down its length at each site. Measure the length with a flexible meter along the bottom of the wall, just in the place where it adjoins the floor. Drawing up a reliable sketch will help to take into account such elements and subtleties as:

  • The full geometry of the room. How the walls intersect, at right angles or not.
  • Niches, ledges, beams, columns, other protruding or deepened parts of the room.
  • The shape and contour of the part of the walls adjacent to the threshold.
  • Will the shape and dimensions of the room fit into a single carpet.

Best of all, if you cover the carpet with one solid piece. It is not advisable to use separate wedges, as this will eventually lead to bullying of individual parts in the seam area.

ATTENTION: Add 2 cm to the obtained geometry parameters of the floor on each side, this will exclude unevenness and deflection of the walls.

Before starting work with the material, it should be kept for 24 hours in the room where it will be spread out. This adapts the woven parts to temperature parameters. After that, spread on the surface of the floor. It is advisable to leave at least 1 day. This is especially important for hard coatings.

Installation Recommendations

After carrying out all the preparatory steps, you can proceed directly to the installation, which can be performed in one of the following ways:

  • Stretching For this, special strips are used, between which the carpet is stretched. But this method is quite laborious. Most often used only in office or other premises, with the exception of living rooms.
  • Fixing with a special adhesive. This method is justified only in rooms with a large area, from 20 m2 and higher.

IMPORTANT: Do not use on linoleum, glue is not intended for materials made of PVC. It is not known how the synthetic surface of linoleum will behave under the action of glue.

  • Double-sided tape is the best option for self-installation in living quarters.

After all the preliminary work, they roll out the canvas and cut it out with a special knife according to the size of the room.

ATTENTION: Do not forget about the small reserves at the edges. Then the canvas rolls back into a roll and double-sided tape is glued to its lower part.

Then, unrolling, the tape from the tape is peeled off and the surface of the carpet is pressed tightly to the surface of linoleum. Simultaneously with rolling, all swelling and unevenness are eliminated.

At the final stage, skirting boards are mounted.
