Types of safes

It's hard to believe, but an ordinary metal cabinet with a wall thickness of 2 to 5 mm and a relatively reliable internal lock can also be considered a safe. With a zero burglary resistance class, but a fairly safe storage, suitable for use in well-guarded places. If there is a need for home protection of material values, then it is worth picking up something more serious.

Types of safes

Small and large, solid and not very high-quality safes always cope with the tasks assigned to them. But only subject to their correct formulation. But in order not to miss the choice, it’s worth a little more to get acquainted with the features of different models.

By appointment

Furniture safes are suitable for temporary storage of material assets. Light weight and compact dimensions allow you to place it on the shelf of the cabinet, thereby hiding from prying eyes. Opening such a store is not too easy. Even though often it has only one castle.

Office safes - more bulky options that can accommodate a large number of various documentation. They are intended for use in secure premises, therefore they are usually not distinguished by special resistance to burglary. But quite often they are able to save documents even in case of fire.

Weapons home safes can be large and small - the buyer is invited to choose the one that is more suitable for his arsenal. A prerequisite is a separate shelf for storing ammunition, which is sometimes even equipped with its own door. If the owner does not want to hide the weapon from prying eyes, then models with a transparent armored glass panel will be offered to his attention.

Deposit a safe is most often seen in a shopping center - this is one of the main elements of payment machines. To put a crisp bill in it, just send it to the receiver. But to get it, you need to open a secure vault locked with several locks. In everyday life it is often used as an original piggy bank.

DATA-Safe is designed to store storage media. It can’t boast a large useful volume, but flash drives with films do not take up much space. But the external dimensions inspire respect, because in addition to protection against hacking, thermal insulation is also provided.

By degree of security

According to this parameter, safes are divided into only 3 categories:

  • burglary resistant;
  • refractory;
  • fireproof.

The first have 12 reliability classes (starting from zero). For home use, 1-2 classes are usually selected. For enterprises that care about the safety of important information, 2-3 are suitable. But in financial institutions used 4-5. Safes of the sixth and higher classes of burglary resistance are made only to order. Therefore, it is not worth trusting the seller, who insistently offers to buy the "eight" - often this is not even the "five".

Hacking resistance is regulated by state and international standards, so it is advisable to bypass all kinds of technical specifications from the manufacturer.

Refractory safes do not have a high level of protection against hacking, but are able to protect the contents from heat. There are three classes of fire resistance.

  1. B - intended for storing papers. In case of fire, a certain time keeps the inside temperature no higher than 170º. However, some types of documents after such "drying" still become worthless.
  2. D - money and other valuables will not be affected by the heat, because the “comfortable” 70º is kept in the safe.
  3. DIS - designed to store electronic storage media, so in case of fire, the temperature inside does not exceed 50º.

The numbers in front of the class abbreviation indicate the maximum time during which the temperature in the storage is not guaranteed to rise. It can be 30, 60, 90 or 120 minutes. So, marking 120 DIS on the inside of the door guarantees a two-hour temperature preservation of no higher than 50º in the safe, even if it is placed in a furnace heated to 1000º centigrade.

Fire and explosion resistant combine the qualities of both analogues, but to achieve these goals, manufacturers have to make the structures very massive. Models are usually made to order.

By type of installation

Recessed - do not differ in large sizes, since they are placed and additionally fixed inside the wall or floor. They gained popularity due to the ability to disguise them. Some manufacturers even relied on camouflage for models with a low level of burglary resistance - it is simply impossible to distinguish their door from a wall clock, socket, or other things familiar to the human eye.

Floor options are cumbersome, but provide large roominess and level of protection. Usually, the outer casing is attached to the floor and walls, which together with a decent weight makes the removal of the safe impossible. Usually disguised as furniture.

Mobile storage facilities are lightweight and compact. This category includes cash boxes, car or furniture safes. They are difficult to crack, but easy to carry if the owners are not prudently fixed on a massive surface.
