DIY floor lamp restoration

If you are tempted to upgrade your old floor lamp, it’s worth considering some restoration options. If you want and use some materials, you can breathe new life into the lamp, it will sparkle with new colors. Having decided to restore the product, you can apply various techniques that are available even to an inexperienced master.

Do-it-yourself floor lamp restoration - decoupage technique

As a rule, the old lampshades on the lamps do not look very beautiful, there are spots and scuffs on them. You can carry out repairs using the decoupage technique.

To work, you will need to prepare the following materials:

  • Directly the old floor lamp with which you plan to work. It should have a tight lampshade, fabric will not work.
  • Napkins for decoupage, large with the pattern you like.
  • White napkins.
  • Scissors.
  • PVA glue.
  • Wallpaper glue.
  • Beads.
  • Glue gun.
  • Two brushes, one wide, the second small.
  • Primer, white paint may also be suitable.
  • Hair dryer and iron.
  • Foam sponge.

IMPORTANT. For decoupage you can choose the most ordinary napkin, which is sold in grocery stores. The main condition is that you like the drawing.

Next, you need to prepare a lampshade. It often happens that there are defects on the lampshade, they must be removed before decoupage. The defect can be removed by attaching a piece of plastic or cardboard. On the back side with PVA glue, you need to glue the recording paper, and from the opposite, stick a clean napkin. Leave to dry.

When everything dries up, it is necessary to start priming the product. After drying the primer, you can proceed to decoupage:

  1. Prepare your chosen wipes. Remove two layers of white paper from them.
  2. The remaining thin color layer must be ironed on the back with an iron.
  3. Walk on the decorated product with wallpaper glue.
  4. Work gradually. After smearing one area, attach a napkin, press it evenly on all sides.
  5. So glue the entire area of ​​the product.

IMPORTANT. The napkin that was placed on the lampshade in the future will be almost impossible to move, work accurately and accurately.

Wrap napkins around the edges, this must be done to make your work look good.

NOTE. In some areas, glue or air may accumulate. They should disappear when the glue dries well.

When the entire area of ​​the product is covered with napkins, smear it with glue and let it dry, you can use glue. Coat the product with acrylic varnish.

REFERENCE. To cover the product, you can use hair spray. But note that the lampshade in this case can not be washed.

Fabric restoration

If you plan to radically change the fabric lampshade, this is also easy. To work, you need to prepare your favorite fabric and braid. Do not do without underwear. Of the tools you will need scissors and a ruler, thread with needles and if there is a sewing machine available.

The lampshade restoration process is carried out according to the following algorithm:

  • Remove the old lampshade, remove the fabric that will need to be replaced.
  • Wash the frame.
  • Based on the old fabric, you can make a pattern. Cut out the details and start sewing a new lampshade.
  • Above and below it is necessary to leave allowances, which in the end you turn into a drawstring for elastic.
  • Racks and rings of the frame tape.
  • Pull the sewn product on the frame and pull the elastic into the drawstring.

Finish the decoration with the rest of the prepared elements.
