Steam boiler operation principle

By name, you can understand that this device is a unit that allows you to produce steam. It can be operated both in everyday life and for industrial purposes. With the help of the boiler, even the most diverse of each other's premises are able to warm up.

Steam Boiler Tasks

The design has many purposes and all can be divided into separate industries:

  1. Energetics. Most often in power plants. It is there that the steam generator must release electrical energy, which is converted from hot steam. Due to the rotation of the built-in shaft, the ability is actually developed.
  2. Heating system. In addition to generation, the device can also be an energy carrier. Only this time the steam moves specifically through the heating circuits. Therefore, it becomes possible to heat the room with heat. Unlike similar technologies, which also have the function of heating the space, this one can fill with heat even objects with a large scale. However, it is worth using more powerful devices.
  3. And the last area to apply is industry. Convert to mechanical energy from heat. They can and provide the movement of the most various components of the system.

How is the steam boiler arranged

Despite a wide range of varieties of powers, each boiler has a similar assembly. Since the boiler converts water to steam, the design consists of a tank that is made from a pipe. In addition to this element, the unit is equipped with a furnace - fuel is burned in it. Its structure and features directly depend on the type of material that is used for kindling. For example, if firewood or coal play this role, then you can notice the presence of a grate, which is designed just for the heat source. In the case when fuel oil or gas acts as the energy carrier, a burner is introduced. In order for the draft to be effective, a chimney is specially built in.

From this we can conclude that the following are always the permanent elements of the system:

  • smoke outlet;
  • bowl with water.

Other elements may vary depending on the fuel consumed.

What is the principle of operation of a steam boiler

After you have figured out the device itself, you can proceed to the principle of operation of the device. This point is pretty easy to understand:

  • First of all, water must be cleaned. This happens with an electric pump. Previously, the liquid is sent to the tank located in the upper part of the boiler.
  • Then it moves from top to bottom through the pipes to the collector.
  • Directly from it, water flows back in the direction, however, already through the heating zone. There, in fact, the combustion of fuel occurs.
  • Then conversion to steam takes place, which eventually goes up. This is due to the pressure difference between the gas and the liquid.
  • In the upper section is a separator. It is designed to separate the steam from the water (the last of them goes to the steam line to consumers). The excess that remains after this manipulation is returned again to the tank.
  • As for the steam generator, then all of these steps are repeated to achieve the desired result.

Is steam boiler operation safe?

It is possible to guarantee safe operation only if the user observes the conditions of safe use. The most significant condition is the maintenance of a given temperature of the metal heating structure. For this continuous operation of the coolant should be carried out, since the product at the outlet has high degrees of heat. Otherwise, the outcome of the events will be the loss of stability of the metal. As a result, an emergency is possible.
