Linoleum life

Linoleum is one of the most common types of flooring, which has excellent characteristics in moisture resistance, strength and elasticity. There are practically no restrictions on the choice of color scheme and pattern.

The shelf life of linoleum at home depends on many factors. The composition of linoleum is divided into two types:

Natural. Its composition consists of suburban materials such as linseed oil, pine resin, wood flour. In this case, natural dyes are used, as well as powder from limestone, and jute fabric is taken for the base.

PVC Mostly consists of synthetic polymeric materials. Today it is the most common type.

The durability of linoleum is achieved due to the multilayer structure, each layer performs its function. First comes the protective layer, in some species there may be an additional protective layer. Then comes the wear layer, it is the thickness of this layer that determines the duration of the flooring and the integrity of the pattern layer. Then comes a layer of fiberglass and substrate.

IMPORTANT! The class of flooring determines the thickness and quality of linoleum layers. Classification is carried out in accordance with the type of premises and the frequency of its use. Types of premises include residential, office or office, and industrial.

To ensure the long-term use of the flooring, it is important to make the right choice according to the class of use. Also, a great role in preserving linoleum is played by the observance of laying rules.

In cases where the temperature of the room where the linoleum was stored differs from the temperature of the room in which it will be laid, it is necessary to leave it for a couple of days to adapt to the temperature regime.

Due to the vapor-tight material, moisture can accumulate, which in turn can lead to mold or rotting of the material. Therefore, the flooring must be done on the prepared surface, observing the process technology.

REFERENCE! The joints of the two surfaces of linoleum should be performed using the method of cold or hot welding.

To increase the period of operation, and to preserve the appearance will help the proper care of the flooring. Natural linoleums should be coated with a special protective agent after laying. The tool will create an additional protective layer that will reduce adhesion, increase wear resistance, which will lead to an increase in the service life. PVC linoleums should be periodically coated with a polymer layer.

To preserve the original appearance and integrity of the flooring, it is necessary to adhere to the following recommendations:

  1. Use nozzles under the legs of furniture to distribute the uniform load;
  2. Avoid direct sunlight, so that the fading process can be prevented;
  3. Do not drag objects on the floor;
  4. Do not use bleaching agents when cleaning, or use chemical solvents when removing stains.
  5. Before wet cleaning, carry out preliminary cleaning of the surface, getting rid of dry garbage.

Compliance with the above rules will help preserve the appearance for a long time and extend its life to 15 years or more. In most cases, the baseless coating will last 7 years, and on the basis of 10 years.
